Celebrating Tomi Ungerer: A Tribute Exhibition by Irish Illustrators

Illustrators Ireland and IBBY Ireland have organized a tribute exhibition titled ‘In Memory of the Future’ at the dlr LexIcon library in Dún Laoghaire Co Dublin. The exhibition features the work of 55 Irish illustrators who have chosen a piece by Ungerer and created their own response or interpretation of it. The exhibition was opened by Aria Ungerer, on 3 August.

The exhibition celebrates the life and work of Tomi Ungerer, who was the first and only honorary member of Illustrators Ireland. The exhibition will run until 30 September 2023, and there will be some supporting events at the Alliance Française in Dublin:

- On Wednesday 13 September, there will be talks by Linda Curtin (awarded the inaugural Tomi Ungerer Residency, Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris) and Anna Sailer, curator of the Tomi Ungerer Museum in Strasbourg, followed by a screening of the new animation series Flix, based on a Tomi Ungerer children’s book.

- On Thursday 14 September, there will be a lecture by Dr Emer O’Sullivan of Leuphana University in Germany, followed by screenings of Moon Man, based on Ungerer’s classic book.
