Politrics

“Politrics” is the title of the next exhibition of Tomi Ungerer’s work, which is dedicated to his political work. This exhibition opens at the Musee Tomi Ungerer (Tomi Ungerer Museum) is Strasbourg on the 26th of November and will run until the 31st March 2011.Political drawings are one of the most important facets of Tomi Ungerer's work. Politrics is entirely devoted to this theme and the exhibiton reunites original drawings and posters of the museum's collection and recent never-before shown collages from the artist's private collection. The work testifies to Tomi Ungerer's stand on war and racism, strongly tied to his experiences of World War II as a young child in Alsace. Posters speaking out against the Vietnam War and racial segregation and their scathing criticism of American politics in the sixties are an important focal point of the visit. For the next three decades, Tomi Ungerer continued his fight against all forms of intolerance, or what he calls "bêtes noires", through the many facets of his work. Political satire also extends itself to queries on the environment and the nuclear, notably illustrated by a new series of drawings from Tomi Ungerer's Schwarzbuch (Tomi Ungerer's Black Book) published in 1985, that was recently added to the museum's collection.Musée Tomi UngererCentre International de l’Illustration – Musée de France2 avenue de la MarseillaiseVilla Greiner67000 StrasbourgTél : 03 69 06 37 27Hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12h to 18hSaturdays and Sundays from 10h to 18hClosed Tuesdays.
