Here Today, Gone Tomorow - Tomi Ungerer Museum

"Here Today, Gone Tomorow" is the title of a new and exciting exhibition of Tomi Ungerer's work created between 1971 and 1975, while living in Nova Scotia, Canada.This exhibition opens at the Musee Tomi Ungerer (Tomi Ungerer Museum) is Strasbourg on the 1st of April and will run until the 1st August 2010This show explores Tomi's years in Canada, where he lived from 1971 to 1975, and allows visitors to contemplate the production of a period when Tomi Ungerer was in search of himself. Following a high profile existance in New York, Tomi and his wife moved to a small house in Lockeport, Nova Scotia, Canada. They re-invented themselves and became farmers. Learning to raising geese, rabbits, sheep and pigs and to slaughter the livestock. This experience is reflected in Tomi's two books "Slow Agony" and "Far our isn't far enough", which form the axis of this exhibition.Tomi Ungerer would not be himself if he had managed to transform this experience into graphic works which are hilarious and authentic. The exhibition is accompanied by sculptures and panels made of wood recovery.The exhibition laid out so that visitors first learn some basic information, giving insight into American society in the late 60s. At the time, the United States was rocked by the revolt of a generation and widespread protest against the war in Vietnam.
