Tomi Ungerer is delighted to announce his first career retrospective in America which will open this January at the Drawing Center. The Drawing Center is the only fine arts institution in the U.S. to focus solely on the exhibition of drawings, both historical and contemporary. It was established in 1977 by curator Martha Beck (1938-2014) to provide opportunities for emerging and under-recognized artists; to demonstrate the significance and diversity of drawings throughout history; and to stimulate public dialogue on issues of art and culture. The Drawing Center has been called "one of the city's most highly respected small art museums" by The New York Times. Attracting more than 55,000 visitors annually from the local area, across the country, and around the world, The Drawing Center has presented more than 230 exhibitions, published over 85 catalogs, and has been recognized internationally through prestigious awards such as the International Art Critics Association/USA award for Best Show by a Non-Profit Gallery or Space.
Tomi Ungerer: All In One begins with his childhood drawings depicting the Nazi invasion of Strasbourg, through his work in New York and Canada, and concludes with Ungerer’s most recent political and satirical campaigns as well as his illustrations for the 2013 children’s book Fog Island.
Tomi Ungerer: All in One will re-introduce this wildly creative individual to New York City and the world. The exhibition will occupy the entire Drawing Center, with a spotlight “exhibition” of Ungerer’s erotic drawings in the Drawing Room and animations in the lower-level Lab gallery.
Work in this exhibition has been provided by the Tomi Ungerer Collection in Ireland, The Tomi Ungerer Museum in France and the Philadelphia Free Library.

Sunday, January 18 from 11am to 12:00pm Book signing from 12:00 to 12:30pm. (Co-produced by Books of Wonder.)
Ungerer will read from his 2013 children’s book, Fog Island, and share his drawing process. (This is a workshop aimed at a younger audience!)
